The Cro 2 occurrence is located along the north fork of Kliyul Creek, 12 kilometres south-southeast of Johanson Lake. It is hosted by volcaniclastic rocks of the Upper Triassic Takla Group, near the southwest margin of a large, elongate diorite to monzodiorite stock of probable Late Triassic age (Open File 2005-4). The Takla rocks are cut by silicified, chloritized and pyritized shear zones which include small quartz-pyrite veins. A sample of one of these veins contained 5.40 grams per tonne silver, 0.294 grams per tonne gold and 0.23 per cent copper (Assessment Report 21502, Sample 86820).

In 1972, four-man crew put together by El Paso Mining and Milling Company completed 13 days of reconnaissance geological mapping and stream silt sampling over the Kli 9-48 claims. A total of 73 stream sediment samples were collected and analyzed. Some rock sampling was done. The area of the Kli (094D 019), Cro 2 (094D 176) and Mal (094D 141) was mapped and prospected (Assessment Report 3977). Very little copper mineralization was observed except in several float occurrences. However, silicified zones with pyrite were seen to occur along shears and fractures in andesite near the intrusive contact and to some extent in the intrusive particularly towards the northwest end of the property.

In 1990, Gold Rule Resources staked the JO 1 to 8 and CRO 1 to 5 claims and carried out reconnaissance silt sampling and prospecting. Numerous gold/copper/molybdenum-in stream silt anomalies were identified and warranted follow-up work. A total of 76 rocks and 174 stream silt samples were collected. Gold Rule reported several gold-bearing silt samples draining the Dortatelle Fault near the western end of the KLI claims (Assessment Report 21502).

In 1992 Noranda carried out 1:5,000 scale geological and alteration mapping and in 1993, they drilled 6 reverse circulation holes on the Kliyul skarn zone (Assessment Report 23033) and followed up with an airborne magnetic, EM, and radiometric survey (Assessment Report 23379). This airborne survey also covered (or nearly covered) 25 MINFILE occurrences including the Cro 2 (094D 176) occurrence.
